We
visited our son at B’lore over 2nd weekend of July. It was his first
job. Son along with his friend had moved to duplex at Jeevan Bheema Nagar
around 3 weeks back. Guys had already picked up all the know-how about smoothly
running the home. Boys along with support from other college friends had turned
the rented house that was not in use for last 6 years into their sweet home. Both
boys were waiting for 3rd Musketeer to join them possibly in August.
I felt my bond with the duplex as
soon as I saw my favorite ‘Indian Cork Tree’ in front of the gate; similar to
my parent’s place in Pune.
After spending 4 wonderful &
eventful years at Pilani in harsh weather, pleasant & green B’lore was
a treat to the boys. They continued to stay without fan as in Pilani it
didn’t run many times due to power-cut & B’lore’s stable weather didn’t
need the fan at most of the times.
Each person’s views differed about
B’lore depending on their original city: Mumbaikars & Delhiites found
nothing odd with long travels however H’badis found it tiring! This reminded
the story of ‘Blind Men & Elephants’.
B’lore’s main problem - traffic jam
hardly affected the boys as their offices were at 3 km & 1.5 km
respectively so many times they preferred walking back from work. Son’s habit
of getting up late annoyed his dude slightly but somehow they managed to push
each other & reach office in time every day. Buddies were providing
good support to one another.
All the MNCs or start-ups selected
by these youngsters had lot of challenges & knowledge to offer however it
also demanded looong work hours on weekdays & short visit on Saturday to
office too. However it also brought satisfaction of building bright career. Son’s
friend felt gr8 to share his business card with visiting uncle as both enjoyed
common interest for Marketing.
It was impressive & satisfactory
for us, parents to see youngsters being independent, methodical & ready to
face the world. Professional education & premium institute background
brought maturity & planning to any task they took up.. be it at office or
at home. All the household chores like checking the water sump level,
scheduling motor running, getting weekend cleaning work done from Kannada
maid, grocery, getting clothes ironed, repairing work from plumber etc.
was managed really well.
It was fun to see boys put
their theoretical knowledge about cooking into practice with cooker, rolling
chapatti etc. My hubby was completely impressed with omelet swiftly served by son
directly from pan till accompanying toasts were perfectly grilled in the
toaster. Son’s friend wanted kitchen to be quickly functional as he already
possessed basic cooking & utensil maintenance knowledge so obviously didn’t
want my son to eat unhealthy Chinese outside; really concerned for his buddy.
Slowly some of the missing
electronics gadgets, furniture & facilities like internet connection, TV
cable connection etc. would be put in place after proper market research &
home would be more comfortable…well deserved by occupants.
Boys promised to do physical workouts
& not spend lot of time with gadgets. It was good to know they were
thinking about bicycle as health & environment friendly mode of transport.
Neighbors, landlady etc. were very
supportive & helpful. Boys assured the landlady that the duplex where she lived for 18 years
before moving to another house would be returned to her in perfect condition
after few years.
All
local relatives and family friends provided lot of help & support at
various times.
Boys were trying to become friendly
with neighbor Simba; however they were following the advice to maintain
distance for safety from Simba – the ‘Great Dane’ dog.
We returned to H’bad with
satisfaction that boy’s home would be more streamlined during our next visit -
possibly after a month depending on mutual convenience.
